Holiday Fun with the Mosaic Team

OK, today was a really fun day! The owners of our accounting firm, Mosaic Business Services, commissioned the JunkGirls to create pieces of art for their 14 employees for their holiday gifts this year. Since I really don’t know them all personally, the goal was to create the pieces, then set them out during their holiday lunch and let each person pick their favorite based on seniority with a little white elephant trading added in. The cool thing was that only a little trading actually happened – everyone was able to get the pieces they wanted. I especially enjoyed hearing why they picked the ones they did and telling them what the pieces & parts were that made up their piece.

I was really flattered to be able to do this for them. It was a lot of fun and felt really special. Here’s a snap of the happy team holding their prizes.

"Inspire" for Jen

This piece always makes me smile. I created her for my writer pal Jen, who was (at the time) struggling with writer's block and needed some inspiration. If you look closely, the back of her "chair" is made of the inside keys out of an old typewriter and she is holding an idea (light bulb) close to her heart. The word "inspire" is in the round disc by her hands. She's one of my smaller and earlier pieces but always a fav.

Foundry Molds BONANZA!

I have a big thing for wooden foundry molds, which are getting harder and harder to find, so just imagine my face when I got to go through a treasure trove of them and pick out anything I wanted! Here I am standing with my recent haul. Get a good look at the large helical gear I’m holding in the back… you’ll see me posting what I made with it soon.

Foundry molds were created by craftsmen/pattern makers pre- Industrial Revolution. The molds were pressed into compact sand where its image was left and then wax was first applied to the cavity and molten iron was poured in making cast iron parts for machines or tools. The old ones are made mostly of wood many are painted with India ink.

Cowboy Love

One of the best parts about what we do is meeting ya'll and we'll be featuring you from time to time..

This little cowboy in a glass dome was purchased by our new pal Tanya at the Craftswomen show. In her words, "he's chillin' and lending authority as the "new sheriff's in town" in my dining room".

Love it. Thanks for sharing Tanya!
